Australian Service Medals set to become collector’s itemThe Australian Service Medal collection, which is comprised of over forty three medals fifty nine current bars and nine World War 11 bars, is already creating intense interest from collector’s both here and overseas. In a first ever release, Christie’s Pty Ltd, is producing a limited edition of only 2500 units of this beautifully framed collection, which includes the service medals presented over the past one hundred years to our dedicated service men and women. Meticulously mounted and displayed on quality backing, this historical masterpiece features medals for Australian War Service beginning with the Egypt Medal (1882 – 89) for service in the Sudan through to the current Iraq campaign. Other medals featured include service presentations from WW1 and WW11 as well as Vietnam, Korea & Borneo. Christie’s director Julian Symon is hardly surprised by the worldwide
interest in this chronological presentation of Australian medals, particularly
when this is first time a full series of medals, ribbons and service clasps
has been compiled in the past thirty years. Medals, badges and flags have long been sought after by collectors the world over, not purely for their historical significance but also because of the extraordinarily fine craftsmanship that goes into producing each piece. No-one is better qualified or experienced in the process of creating these works of art than Christie’s, who together with the Amor Badge Company boast over one hundred years apiece as designers and manufacturers of the full range of military and government insignias. Christie’s is also one of Australia’s leading flag distributors, maintaining a standard of workmanship that has seen the company called upon to produce the full complement of national and international flags as diverse as the Papal Standard for the Pope’s aircraft through to the official memorial flag at Anzac Cove. Similarly, the Amor Badge Company was also established last century and has been continuously producing items including Army Service medals, University medals and an extensive selection of badges for schools, clubs and organisations. It seems fitting that some of the machinery used to produce these presentation medallions is almost as old as the tradition itself, dating back to the beginning of last century and still in perfect working order. Christie’s and Amor Badge Company have recently amalgamated under the Christie’s banner and continue to offer a level of excellence that has gained them an international reputation for first class products and service. Their highly talented and creative graphics team is responsible for designing a range of medals and badges from traditional military items through to the latest in school, sports and major corporate entities. The Australian Services Medal collection is the first in a series of collectable presentation items that Christie’s will be releasing over the next few months Unique sports series as well as other historical events that are well remembered.
